The European Accessibility Act has been introduced in Italy as an essential innovation to make private companies' websites more inclusive and accessible to all. Today, following the enactment and adoption of the EAA, all commercial entities with a website are involved, whereas previously, the legislation in force (Law No. 4 of 9 January 2004, known as the Stanca Law) imposed accessibility and inclusivity standards only on public administrations and companies with a turnover of more than €500 million.
In Italy, the reference regulatory source was the Stanca Law (Law 4/2004), which was then extended in terms of content and subjects involved by Decree Law 76/2020.
In Italy, the authority that controls and supervises this matter is AGCOM. The reference agency that develops and coordinates policies and guidelines on accessibility is AGID
